Designer Profile

As a landscape designer, I work with property owners designing gardens, patios, walkways and unique outdoor features. I strive to enhance and preserve the natural systems of a site by using native plants and local construction materials. I design landscapes in a way that minimizes the human impact on the earth using sustainable practices. My specialty is to combine the unique feeling of an interior space with an outdoor environment using durable and weather resistant materials.

I earned a master's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Interior Design. I also studied horticulture at Oakland Community College and in Michigan State University's Master Gardener program.

SEPARATION BY PATHWAYS

Pathways were used to separate the tended areas from the more wild areas. They also provided dry ground for pedestrian circulation. The downspouts were connected to underground pipes and the water was directed to new french drains. Location: Southfield, Michigan
RAIN GARDEN SOLUTION

An infiltration swale covered with flagstone paving and stone pebbles
handled the roof and neighbor’s run-off and minimized potential erosion problems.
A sub-surface perforated pipe directed the water to the rain garden.
Twenty-four inches of clay was removed and replaced with sand and compost in the rain garden.
Twenty-four inch deep vertical mulch columns lie beneath the rain garden fill for additional drainage.
Red-twig dogwood shrubs were planted in front of the dining room bay window for privacy.
Lilyturf and geraniums were planted as a ground cover along the driveway on the south side
instead of lawn to blend into the neighbor’s front perennial yard. Location: Birmingham Michigan
